Boasting a wide range of skills and services, Brenda Gail Jones’ expertise has carried her to lead organizations and serve in administrative roles. Since 2003, she has utilized these attributes as the principal and program manager of special education for the Santa Clara County Office of Education. She brought to this position her prior experience as the Director of Pupil Personnel Services for the Redwood City School District from 2000 to 2003 and as the Director of Educational Services and Special Projects for the Lakeport Unified School District from 1998 to 2000. Earlier in her career, she garnered experience as an assistant principal with the Lakeport Unified School District from 1982 and a teacher with the district from 1972 to 1982.
In addition to her roles in education, Ms. Jones is proud of continuing her strong family lineage with the Order of the Eastern Star. For several generations, her family have been proud members of fraternal and Masonic groups. She served as Deputy Grand Matron for the Order of the Eastern Star in 1999. Her mother, grandmother, and grandfather and great grandfather had all been members. During her time in this role, she was responsible for planning and leading activities, fundraisers, designing and executive charitable projects and running various assets of the organization. Her service in this role coincided with the organization’s centennial and she was instrumental in planning an event to mark the historic event.
Being a member of fraternal groups paved the way for Ms. Jones to go into the academic field. She entered her profession because as a teenager, she was a part of the International Order of the Rainbow for Girls. Joining that organization was transformative for Ms. Jones because it gave her the experience of leadership, organization, working with others and being a role model. From that, she became a state officer, which was an honor for a year. Ms. Jones realized that education would be a natural step for her, there was no question in her mind that she wanted to be a teacher. When Ms. Jones, retired she had 42 years of experience in education.
Ms. Jones prepared for her career in education by first earning a Bachelor of Arts from San Francisco State University in 1972. She continued at the University of San Francisco to receive a Master of Arts in 1983. She became a certified teacher and school administrator in the state of California. In addition to being affiliated with the Order of the Eastern Star, she has been involved with the Association of California School Administrators and severed as the president of the Lakeport County Association for School Administrators.
